A true oil-free compressor is one in which there is no oil present in the compression chamber. A typical example of such an oil-free compressor is our Scrolli model range. The compressed air from these types of compressors is absolutely oil-free.

The major advantage is that oil contamination can never enter the compressed air and affect processes or products. A common application is in the food industry, where compressed air comes into direct contact with food. There are also chemical processes where even the smallest oil contamination in compressed air is undesirable.

Compressed air from an oil-lubricated compressor can nowadays also be filtered to be virtually oil-free using special oil filters. However, the oil-free performance of these filter systems depends on temperatures and proper maintenance. With an oil-free compressor, these factors play a less significant role.
