A direct-driven compressor has a direct transmission between the screw element and the electric motor. This provides an energy saving compared to a V-belt drive. Often, the screw elements are larger, making them more efficient as well. A direct drive requires less maintenance.

A modern V-belt driven compressor is cheaper to purchase but is just as reliable as other drive variants.
